Stamps on Malaysian palm trees.


STAMP collectors can start a collection on Malaysian palm tree species when Pos Malaysia Bhd launches stamps and first-day covers on three species next week.

The stamps and first-day covers featuring three designs — the Fish Tail Palm, Fan Palm and Serdang Palm — will be available for sale at all post offices nationwide next Tuesday.

Pos Malaysia stamp and philately unit head Yasmin Ramli said the stamps, printed in sheets of 20, come in denominations of 50 sen while the first-day covers would be sold at 30 sen each.

Miniature sheets available at RM3 each and folders at RM5.50 each would be available only at selected post offices. The full set costs RM40.60.

Collectors can also get the items without queuing up at the post office on the day of issue by logging on to www.posonline.com.my.

Also, in conjunction with the 35th year of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, Pos Malaysia will launch a special collector’s item on May 31.

KUALA LUMPUR: Stamp enthusiasts can look forward to a new series of Special Stamps and its First Day Cover to be released nationwide Thursday.

Themed ‘Conservation of Environment’, the series offer stamps of three designs namely Clean Water, Go Green and Fresh Air, representing efforts to conserve marine life, the rainforests and the air respectively.

The collection will be made available in the 30 sen (the Clean Water design only) and 50 sen denominations (Go Green and Fresh Air designs only).

In a media preview of the stamps held at Pos Malaysia’s headquaters Tuesday, Yasmin Ramli, head of the Stamp and Philately Unit said that the stamps were launched in conjunction with the commemoration of World Environment Day on June 5.

A First Day Cover bearing the three postage stamps and a special rubber stamp of its date of issue will also be available to collectors at RM1.60.

The cover will be on sale at all Pos Malaysia branches for just one day.

Enthusiasts may also purchase the complete collection, which includes the stamps, the First Day Cover and a limited edition folder for RM33.10, which is available at selected branches.

Pos Malaysia also announced that it will launch 1,800 copies of the new 2008 Stamp Collection of Malaysia book on June 25.
